Located in the Bedford Grove Shopping Center near Hannaford Supermarket, Taipei Tokyo 3 offers an array of genuine Chinese and Japanese fare along with plenty of customary favorites and a full-service Sushi bar. A large banner over the front door boasts they were voted No. 1 in 2010.
Ambiance: 16/20
Our Gourmet: The restaurant was adorned in simple, but authentic, Chinese art and decorations. As we entered with high expectations we were not only greeted by our hostess, but also by a large tank filled with Asian koi fish. The dining room has plenty of tables and booths that allowed us to have a quiet dinner without feeling crowded. Although the restaurant has not had any recent cosmetic updates and the tableware shows age, the fresh selections and decent prices offset the ambiance.
Appetizer: 18/20
OG: I chose one of my favorite Chinese appetizers, the Teriyaki Beef Sticks ($6.95). The beef was tender and juicy with a perfect light seasoning. The serving of four was well-plated, garnished with pineapple and cherries, and got my dinner off to a great start. 9/10
TDC: For starters I decided to try the Sesame Boneless Ribs ($6.95). The strips of pork were quite different from the common Chinese Boneless Ribs. A plate of thin tender strips of pork were covered with a sweet sesame sauce and placed atop a bed of rice noodles, which added texture and a bit of a crunch. My palette was definitely pleased and I was anxious to try my entrée. 9/10
Entrée: 16/20
OG: In sticking with my favorites again, I ordered the popular General Tso's Chicken ($12.50). Crispy battered chicken in a sticky Hunan sauce filled my plate; a portion that definitely was not going to leave me hungry. Sided with freshly steamed broccoli, General Tso's was a great choice. 8/10
TDC: An entrée of Hunan Style Shrimp and Chicken ($16.50) caught my attention. A combination of large flavorful shrimp and thin strips of sautéed chicken in a spicy brown Hunan sauce was served with a medley of freshly sautéed Asian vegetables. The entrée was balanced, but because I chose a spicy dish the sauce could have had more heat. The side of pork fried rice was light and tasty and a great complement to my entrée. 8/10
Menu: 20/20
OG: There's one word to describe the menu: choices. The menu offers one of the largest selections of Chinese and Japanese cuisine in the Manchester area. Offerings include a wide variety of Oriental flavors including orange, sesame, Mandarin, Mongolian, Hunan and Szechuan. If you crave seafood like TDC, offerings of shrimp, scallops, fish and lobster are available with many sauces and sides. TPT3 also offers Japanese items of tempura, udon, teriyaki and negimaki. Whether you dine in for lunch, dinner or order takeout, Taipei Tokyo offers fresh choices paired with value. Luncheon specials (combination plates) are served seven days a week and offer a choice of soup, appetizer, entrée and choice of rice for a reasonable price. There is also a Japanese Lunch Box section offering teriyaki, tempura and salad combinations. TPT3 also caters to the health conscious with their revolutionary light cuisine section that calls for no oil or MSG.
Worth Mentioning: 17/20
OG: TDC and I were greeted promptly at our table and offered hot green tea and a bowl of rice snacks to munch on while we waited. Our server was courteous and diligent offering to refill our tea and water more than once and removing used dishes right away but did not become annoying. Our server timed our appetizers and entrees perfectly to allow us to enjoy a glass of sake in between our selections and after dinner we were not hurried.
